The Old North

Someone usually mentions it first, “the bar behind The People’s Pizzeria”, and before long you’re following the smell of dough and woodsmoke down what looks like the back of a pizzeria. Then it opens up, and suddenly, you’re in.

It’s part bar, part den. Wood, flickering light, skulls tucked into corners. Sheepskins thrown over benches when the cold rolls in. It feels lived-in, built over time, one good night after another.

In summer, their beer garden fills fast. It’s one of the rare sunny spots in Hebden where you can sit with a drink and actually feel the sun. Barrels for tables, high stools, a bit of cover for when the clouds decide to join in. You can sit for hours with a pizza and a cocktail, people-watching as the afternoon turns to gold.

It gets busy when the sun’s out, and rightly so. Go early if you want a seat. If you hover politely, someone will usually tell you when they’re heading off. That’s just Hebden.

Winter’s cosy and close. The warmth from the pizza oven drifts through, the sheepskins make their return, and the low hum of conversation replaces the summer buzz. Just remember to pull the door shut behind you, the Hebden draft is no joke.

The drinks here are the real deal. No sugar bombs or gimmicks. Just well-made cocktails, mixed with care and confidence. Few places in Hebden do them this well. Try The Last Waltz.

Order a pizza while you’re at it. Not many bars can turn out cocktails and wood-fired pizzas of this quality. Just listen for your name being called.
